How many UNREAD EMAILS do you have in your Inbox right now?  Yup, right now.  Go ahead and check and then come back here — just make sure you don’t delete any!

Be honest, is your Inbox overflowing?

Are there emails in there you just don’t want to deal with?

Today, I caught a glimpse of my friend’s iPhone home screen…reminding him he had 721 emails waiting for him to attend to!

Recently, I caught the tweet of Michael Hyatt, CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers, proclaiming that he was declaring email bankruptcy since he felt had no other choice.  He was totally overwhelmed and realized he couldn’t handle it all by himself even if he attempted to.  So he threw up his hands and let it all go.

So what to do? Delete ALL emails in the inbox after the vacation or long digital absence, and then just start over.  Apologies doled out in bulk.

It struck a chord on many levels, since even through I myself try to apply things like the GTD way of managing email and other areas of workflow processes, I realize too that I’m always on the brink of disaster…knowing deep inside, that I’m probably never really ever in full control.

To me, life sometimes feels like it never quits.  In this way, LIFE — especially in the City — can be compared to that overflowing email Inbox. . .

Relentless.

Neverending.

Time-sinking.

Urgent.

Addictive.

Compelling.

Distracting.

Relentless.

What if we could declare bankruptcy of sorts in the same way regarding our lives?

Ah yes, we can, can’t we!  Sometimes it is easy to forget that as Christ followers, we have that option of throwing up our hands and letting it all go.   If we do, everything will be taken care of.  No apologies necessary in this case.
