Free Coldplay For A Day

[CLARIFICATION: People have been asking about When is this?  How Long?  Here’s the ANSWER: TODAY ONLY, MAY 15th]

Contemporary Christian Music [CCM] is a hit.

CCM is now the 2nd largest radio format in the United States.

Coldplay is one of the reasons why.  And this band understands how to communicate and relate to its fan base.

For example, while Ashton Kushter and CNN were dueling it out on Twitter, Coldplay has quietly gathered up almost three quarters of a million followers on Twitter as of May 2009.

And in a very smart marketing move, the band has decided to giveaway its latest album in its entirety to all its fans on May 15th.

That’s right.  A completely free downloadAccording to the band, the give-away is meant as a recession-busting mark of gratitude to everyone who’s supported them:

“Playing live is what we love. This album is a thank you to our fans – the people who give us a reason to do it and make it happen.”

The live LeftRightLeftRightLeft album was recorded over the past year in various cities around the world on the Viva La Vida tour. Here’s the tracks that are being given to Coldplay fans for free:

  • Glass of Water
  • 42
  • Clocks
  • Strawberry Swing
  • The Hardest Part/Postcards From Far Away
  • Viva La Vida
  • Death Will Never Conquer
  • Fix You
  • Death And All His Friends

They’ve done similiar things in the past such as arranging for another completely free give away of the track that bookend another one of their recent albums.

Coldplay has realized the its relationship with its fans is more valuable than actual dollars in the bank right now.  You can bet that these same fans will keep coming back for more when they release future tracks in the future.

That’s music to my ears.

  1. Thanks for the tip! Looks like it is not available online until May 15th though.

  2. @Paul – Yes, you are right – 5/15/09 is the day. Just a heads up so that you can share the good news with your friends till then.

But if you want something completely free TODAY (May 11), you might be interested in the 2nd link in the post above for the Jon Hopkins mp3 music download for free, Light Through The Veins – someone that collaborates and records together (their track is on a same CD with Coldplay).

If that's not enough, then here is a free promo code you can use for a free DVD movie rental at any of the 15,000 RedBox movie rental kiosks nationwide: 6A43JK

  3. I downloaded the Colplay album today. We played it through two times already in our apartment – it sounds great!

    • Thanks for letting me know that you were able to grab the zip file of mp3 goodies of leftrightleftright!

I have the folder on my desktop. Coldplay has done more to generate buzz and a new connection (I think everyone is probably excited to some degree to get an entire album for free) to the band with their thank you gesture to the fans.

  4. I don't get it. What does Coldplay have to do with CCM?
